Go after Sandusky and everyone having anything to do with these crimes. Bill O’Brien didn’t rape those children. The players didn’t rape those children. That ugly-ass PSU mascot didn’t rape those children. All of those proud PSU Football fans didn’t rape those children. Makes no sense to punish the football program.

Growing up, we always hear our parents say “I’ll always remember where I was when Kennedy was shot” or when we landed on the moon or whatever huge event. My generation has some of those, most notably 9-11.

However, as a Mets fan, I will always remember where I was on June 1, 2012 when Johan Santana pitched the Mets’ first no-hitter in their 51 years. I just got out of work and remember standing at the Exton Amtrak station, in the pouring rain, around the 7th inning. The Mets have had no-hitters that late before, Niese even had one this year. But then, on the train ride home, it happened. I honestly don’t remember the 30 minute train ride back to Philly. All I remember is having a stupid grin on my face and a tear in my eye. Finally.

I heard about the sexual abuse from the babysitter but it wasn’t until this video that I heard about the abuse from an older boy.

Wow.

I can’t imagine having to live through this or how he is feeling now letting it all out after holding it in for that long.

Websites are hawking key chains bearing Trayvon Martin’s likeness. His parents have bought two trademarks, saying they hope to raise money to help other families struck by tragedy. Trayvon clothes, bumper stickers, buttons and posters are up for grabs on eBay.

A feeling of disgust filled in me when I started reading this passage and then I read the rest of it saying that they would donate the money to help other families in similar situations. The feeling then turned into confusion as I don’t know how I feel about it.

Really, hipsterdom is just the end product of all previous countercultures meshing into one. Part punk, part hippie and part old school hip-hop, hipster is indefinable and doesn’t really exist.

Sounds about right.

Previous countercultures were important because they did things. The beat generation rode the rails. Hippies protested the war. Punks, for lack of a better term, f***ed s**t up. In every case, each counterculture engaged in an activity that broader society didn’t understand. The clothes they wore were simply a way to identify a kindred spirit.

I’m not saying that hosting peaceful protests and hitchhiking across the country are the best ways to spend your time.

But it’s infinitely more useful than posting pictures of your ironic moustache and fake black-rimmed glasses on Tumblr. This is an inarguable fact.

The funny thing is that “hipsters” feel that they are better than we are exactly like we think we are better than them. It’s a vicious circle.
